Russia's Daniil Medvedev, 5th in the world, had to overcome cramps to beat Bolivian Hugo Dellien (84) 6-3, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 in 2:43, Thursday in the second round of the US Open.

"I do not know why, but I had cramps," commented the strong man of the North American hard road tour, winner in Cincinnati of his first Masters 1000 ten days ago.

"I had cramps all over my body, even in my little toe, which made me nervous, but I'm still here!", Said the 23-year-old Russian who tied his best result in the US Open by reaching the 3rd round as last year.

A racket that had been smashed on the floor was still frustrated and irritated after the loss of the third set.

Medvedev will face Spain's Feliciano Lopez (61st) for a place in the round of 16.
