Jérémy Chardy, 74th World, fought but he lost to Stan Wawrinka (24th) 6-4, 6-3, 6-7 (3/7), 6-3, Thursday in the 2nd round of the 'US Open.
Surprised in the first two rounds, Chardy came back in the game to win the 3rd in the tie break but only rolled back the deadline.
He had managed to reach the 8th finals at Flushing Meadows in 2015.
In the next round, Wawrinka, winner of the 2016 US Open, will face Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (50th) or Italian Paolo Lorenzi (135th).
