“As for the debt settlement actions announced today by the Argentine authorities, the Fund’s staff are analyzing and evaluating their impact,” the statement said on the IMF’s website.

The report notes that the organization "understands that the authorities have taken these important steps to meet liquidity needs and protect reserves."

Earlier, Argentine Finance Minister Hernan Lacunsa said that Argentina intends next week to begin negotiations with the IMF to revise the terms of debt repayment.
