The management of a professional training school in southern China has asked a student to prove that her hair is naturally curly, after the school prevented students from dyeing and curling their hair, sparking controversy over the bylaws of Chinese schools. A video posted on Weibo shows that the student has long curly hair, while the management of her school, Xiamen Industrial and Commercial School, in Fujian Province, believes that the student has curled her hair.

The school's regulation states that students who change their hair color or shape are not allowed to attend classes until they remove the colors and reshape the hair as it was. The student concerned asked a local hospital to give her a certificate proving that her hair was naturally curly, but the medical establishment did not have the equipment to conduct such a test, after which she went to the local beauty and cosmetics association, which admitted that her hair was naturally curly.

The headmaster said they did not ask the student for a certificate, and she could have provided the school with some childhood photos showing her curly hair. The principal said that their original goal of not allowing hair dye was the healthy growth of students. Internet users were not worried about explaining the school. “Standard rules eliminate students' personality and aesthetic advantages,” commented one user.
