• Colombia: Former FARC leader Iván Márquez announces that he retakes his arms

It was a hopeful pronouncement in the middle of a tense and anxious day in Colombia, after the announcement of the birth of a new post-FARC guerrilla. Rodrigo Londoño, alias 'Timochenko', former leader of that armed group, did so at the time of the announcement in a video of Iván Márquez, one of the peace negotiators, who takes up arms and returns to the dissent of that group armed. "More than 90 percent of former guerrillas remain committed to the peace process," said Timochenko.

The top leader of the FARC took advantage of the scenario to confirm what for several years was an open secret: his estrangement with Iván Márquez, whom he criticized. "The 150 former guerrillas killed, of which Márquez speaks, are worried that a good part have died from the FARC's dissent," he said.

In fact, although more than 90 percent of the former guerrillas remain firm in the peace process and in the concentration zones adapted by the National Government, their luck worries because Márquez, one of the most respected men in the armed group, will pretend to wash them the mind, snatch them to peace, take them with him to war and overcome the 2,100 men who today integrate this group into dissent.

It is not ruled out that the former number two of the FARC, today on the other side, threatens the lives of the top leaders of that former armed organization, for thinking differently and getting in the way. "It would be very sad, they took a path and we ours. They won't take us out of ours," said Timochenko.

Increase polarization in Colombia

In Colombia, a country that woke up today more politically polarized this Thursday, where Santistas , Uribistas and ordinary citizens look for those responsible, insists on taking urgent measures. One of them, to expel Iván Márquez, Jesús Santrich and Óscar Montero 'alias El Paisa', of the Political Party of the FARC.

"For me they would be out of the game," said Timochenko. There is an ethics committee and the task will not be so easy because there are divisions. Another decision is to change the name of the aforementioned Political Party of the FARC because even Márquez speaks on behalf of the "FARCc, people's army". And a third, to get Justice to annul the investiture in Santrich because, inexplicably, although he flees from the authorities, an Interpol alert and an extradition order for the United States weigh on him, he continues to receive a salary in Congress.

The birth of a new guerrilla has become the workhorse of 'Uribismo' (Senator Álvaro Uribe's party), two months after the regional electoral elections because his party, Democratic Center, was always on the shore contrary to the process of peace.

"The country has to be aware that there was no peace process, but the pardon for some people responsible for heinous crimes at a high institutional cost," Uribe said. And minutes later, he launched a controversial proposal: withdraw peace agreements from the Constitution. "In addition, capturing those bandits where they are, recovering this economy, deepening social policy and a firm hand against those bandits is what this country needs."

Peace Nobel, Juan Manuel Santos, who does not escape criticism for the peace agreements in Havana, Cuba, lowered the tone of the national controversy and wrote on his Twitter account: " 90 percent of the FARC they continue in the peace process. They must continue to be fulfilled. Deserters must be repressed with all forcefulness. The battle for peace does not stop. "

And Humberto De La Calle, the chief peace negotiator, and one of the men who spoke most in the peace talks with Iván Márquez, issued a five-point statement calling on Colombians to wrap and protect the process. "We reject and strongly condemn the announcements of Iván Márquez ...", he said. And he took the opportunity to criticize the government of President Duque. "The Government must assume with leadership and state criteria the leadership of the peace process and stop acting with party criteria as it has done so far ... we call on the United Nations Security Council to redouble surveillance and its support to the process ".

For now, President Iván Duque still does not pronounce himself. And it is speculated that, surely, it will not. He will, as spokesman, the Peace Commissioner because he wants to lower the tone and not give it the importance and place that Iván Márquez and his new armed men crave.
