Ukrenergo informed the Russian Federation of the transfer to the arbitration court of claims in a dispute regarding the illegal seizure of its infrastructure facilities in the Crimea, ”the report said.

As noted, the company claims compensation for "violation by Russia" of the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Russian government on the promotion and mutual protection of investments from 1998.

The company claims compensation for damage “from the illegal expropriation of Ukrenergo's investments in Crimea” and for “violation of the obligation to guarantee full and unconditional legal protection”.

In March, Naftogaz said it had won a lawsuit against Russia in an asset loss case in Crimea at an arbitration tribunal in The Hague.

As noted in the Ministry of Justice of Russia, Moscow does not recognize the partial decision of the Hague court in the suit of Naftogaz.

Two court decisions were later appealed.

Crimea became the Russian region after a referendum held in March 2014, during which the majority of the inhabitants of the peninsula called for reunification with Russia.
