The first phase of Västerport includes seven blocks. Six of the neighborhoods were included in the competition, where construction players had to submit their contributions on how they wanted to design Varberg's new district. The neighborhood was divided into twelve different lots that construction players had to compete in in a land allocation competition organized by Varberg Municipality.

"But it's not just a residential area, it's a whole new neighborhood," says Ann-Charlotte Stenkil, chair of the municipal council.

Mix between classic and playful

In May and June, a jury has decided on the total of 20 submissions submitted. On Tuesday, the winners of the various tickets were presented at a press conference with representatives from the municipality.

For the competition, three focus areas were developed that one wanted to characterize the new area:

• Variation for integration

• Everyday logic that simplifies and unites

• Blue and green show the way

The jury describes that the winners "are a combination of actors who have different strengths and therefore complement each other to a good whole" . Furthermore, they write that the proposals are a mix between classic designs and playful forward-looking designs.
