With several days late on the deadline set by Brussels, the French presidency announced Wednesday (August 28th) that the centrist Sylvie Goulard, currently Deputy Governor of the Banque de France, was the official candidate for Paris for a position within the future European Commission.

Senior politician and politician centrist Sylvie Goulard, 54, is the official candidate of France to join the future European Commission expected to take office on November 1, announced the Elysee on Wednesday.

She will be able to showcase her " recognized European experience " and her ability to " play a major role " in the team, according to Paris. Ms Goulard was MEP and advisor to Commission President Romano Prodi.

Ephemeral Minister of Armies for a month, in 2017, she had to give way to Florence Parly because of suspicions of fictitious jobs hitting his party, the MoDem, in the Strasbourg Parliament. She has not been indicted.

The future leader of the Commission, the German Ursula von der Leyen, must now accept or not the dossiers submitted by the Member States and then assign the selected candidates a portfolio, linked to a theme of action.

France has delivered the name of its candidate with delay, the deadline being 26 August. Paris, in order to take over from the Socialist Pierre Moscovici, would like to obtain a new portfolio in the new Commission that is faithful to its political priorities.
