Former German cycling champion Jan Ullrich has been fined 7200 euros after assaulting and injuring an escort girl at a Frankfurt hotel in 2018, the city's public prosecutor said in a statement on Wednesday.

A court in Frankfurt has sentenced the ex-winner of the Tour de France (1997), now 45, to a 180-day fine at 40 euros / day.

This quick procedure avoided a trial because the court found the injuries but admitted that the victim's life was not endangered. Ullrich, who accepted the sanction, was at the material time under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The former champion had made headlines again in 2018 due to several assaults or violent acts. In particular, he had been arrested in Spain for having entered a neighbor's property and started a fight. He was also arrested at Hamburg airport after assaulting a man.

The German press claimed at the time that he was undergoing treatment in the United States against his addictions.
