“The senator did not apply for a visa at our embassy and did not inform about his plans to visit Russia,” the embassy’s press service quoted TASS as saying.
The diplomatic mission noted that the baselessness of Johnson’s accusations leaves no doubt that he is “set up for confrontation”.
“He distorts the foreign policy of Russia, allows gross attacks,” the text says.
Earlier, Senator Johnson refused to obtain a Russian visa.
