Iranian President Hassan Rouhani yesterday called on the United States to "take the first step" by lifting sanctions against Iran, a day after US President Donald Trump said he was open to a meeting with his Iranian counterpart.
"The step is to lift all sanctions," Rouhani said in a speech broadcast live on state television.
US President Donald Trump has said he will meet his Iranian counterpart to end the standoff over Tehran's nuclear activities.
But Rouhani said in his televised address that "Tehran has never wanted to acquire nuclear weapons," adding that his country was always ready for dialogue.
The Iranian president pointed out to continue «reduce our obligations in the (nuclear) agreement concluded in 2015 if our interests are not guaranteed».
Rouhani rejected the idea of meeting Trump before lifting all sanctions against Iran.
This comes at a time announced a spokesman for the Iranian judiciary, yesterday, that two people, one of whom is an Iranian-British woman, was imprisoned on charges of "spying" for Israel.
Spokesman Gholamhossein Ismaili was quoted as saying that Anousheh Ashouri, a dual national, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for "transmitting information to the Israeli Mossad."
She was also sentenced to two years in prison for receiving "illegal funds from Israel" worth 33,000 euros, according to the Iranian judiciary.
He was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for "spying crimes, including links to the Mossad and meetings with elements associated with the Zionists," according to Ismaili.
