François Bayrou, the president of the MoDem, said Tuesday that the priority in the pension reform should be the "maintenance of the level" of pensions, and that to focus, as Emmanuel Macron, on the contribution period is a way " useful and fruitful "to approach it.

The President of the Republic said Monday night his preference for a calculation of pension rights related to the duration of contribution rather than the age of departure.

"The contribution period is indeed a way of approaching things which, I am sure, can be the subject of a useful and fruitful chapter of negotiations", approved the Mayor of Pau on Radio classic, estimating as the head of state that "what matters most is not so much the age as the duration of contribution".

"The concern of the public authorities in the pension reform should focus in my opinion primarily on maintaining the level of pensions," he also pleaded.

"There are concerns about this issue, but the responsibility of those who now hold the fate of pensions is that the level of pensions for the future does not decline, because those who have worked all their professional lives, who have family responsibilities, all those have the right to have visibility on the future of retirement, "he insisted.

Emmanuel Macron "said it would be the result of a negotiation and I think it is a good idea that everyone is engaged in the pension reform necessary for the country," he also said.

For the spokesperson of LREM Aurore Bergé, at the microphone of Sud Radio, there are "full options today that are on the table", but "what is certain is that the system must be deeply revised for to be clearer, fairer, more legible, and above all that we must be able to work longer without penalizing those who started working very early ".

A dialogue phase around the Delevoye report must now open. The social partners will be received at Matignon on 5 and 6 September. Several unions announced a mobilization of their troops, including FO on 21 September and CGT 24.
