August 27, 2019 Brazil has refused emergency aid, for 20 million dollars, proposed by the G7 countries for the fires that are devastating the Amazon, claiming that the flames are "under control".

Onyx Lorenzoni, the chief of staff of the Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has formalized the refusal of aid from Brasilia: "We thank (the G7 for its offer of help, ed), but these means can be more relevant for the reforestation of the Europe".

"Whoever burned Notre Dame does not give us lessons"
Lorenzoni then sharply criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for the fire that struck Notre-Dame last April: "Can Macron not even avoid a foreseeable fire in a church that is part of the world heritage and wants to give lessons to our country? ".

Environment Minister defeated
Earlier, Environment Minister Ricardo Salles told reporters that he welcomed the G7 funding, but after a meeting between the president, Jair Bolsonaro, and his ministers, the government changed its mind. "Brazil is a democratic and free country that has never had colonialist and imperialist practices, which is perhaps the goal of the French president Macron", said the head of cabinet of Bolsonaro, Lorenzoni.
