The Japanese Kei Nishikori, 7th in the world, is the first qualifier for the second round of the US Open, having benefited on Monday from the injury abandonment of his opponent, the Argentinean qualifier Marco Trungelliti (205).

Nishikori led 6-1, 4-1 when Trungelliti threw in the towel, obviously facing back pain. A few games earlier, he had also brought the doctor on the court to handle it.

In the next round, Nishikori will face the winner of the match between the American Bradley Klahn (108th) and the Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (101st).
