Russia's Daniil Medvedev, fifth in the world, easily qualified on Monday for the second round of the US Open, beating India's Prajnesh Gunneswaran 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

"I'm not impressed by my game today," admitted the current fitness man who played the finals of all three US Open preparatory tournaments and won his first Masters 1000 in Cincinnati.

"But I'm qualified and I hope to play better and better," he added.

In the next round, the 23-year-old Russian will face Bolivian Hugo Dellien (84) or South Korean Soonwoo Kwon (90 and qualifying).
