France's Fiona Ferro (74th) qualified Monday for the second round of the US Open by defeating Australia's Daria Gavrilova (95) 6-3, 6-4.
Ferro, 22, is the first tricolor representative to pass the first round this year at Flushing Meadows, with Caroline Garcia eliminated earlier.
In the second round, Ferro will face his compatriot Kristina Mladenovic (54th) or Germany's Angelique Kerber (14th)
