It started with two police officers being shot at an industrial area in Porvoo in Finland the night between Saturday and Sunday.

However, the suspected perpetrators managed to escape and stay away anyway until Sunday evening, when they were arrested after a dramatic car chase outside Tampere.

During the hunt, the men must have both shot at the police and tried to drive at them.

It was previously known that the men fled in a Swedish-registered car, but on Monday the police of Finnish Ilta-Lehti also confirmed that the arrested men are Swedish citizens.

- The police have a good idea of what has happened. But we have not yet heard the suspects and several investigative measures remain. After that, we expect more information, says Kimmo Huhta-aho, of the Finnish police, in a press release.

These are two men born in 1989 and 1994, according to Ilta-Lehti. The police also confirm that the men are the suspects for shooting at the police in Porvoo the night before Sunday.

The case is being investigated, among other things, as an attempted murder. One of the police officers left the hospital over the weekend, while the situation of the other yesterday was described as stable.

The Finnish police are expected to provide further details on the arrest on Monday.
