Benjamin Griveaux, LREM candidate for the municipal elections in Paris, proposed on Monday to Cédric Villani, who might be tempted to launch a dissident candidacy, to "co-pilot" the presidential party's campaign, "both on the merits and on the incarnation".

"What I proposed to him is something very clear," said Griveaux on Europe 1.

"I propose to him that on the project, the big programmatic choices, and on the people to carry this project there, he is by my side and that he co-chairs, that he co-manages this campaign by my side, at the same time the substance and the incarnation, "added the former government spokesman.

"We have more convergences than divergences", pleaded the deputy of Paris, indicating having "sent a letter Friday morning" to the mathematician, in which he "formulates concrete proposals for it to be fully present in the campaign and in the collective ".

Mr. Griveaux was invested in July by a Commission of the Republic in progress, but Mr. Villani, who was also seeking the label LREM, repeatedly denounced a "flawed procedure", leaving some doubt over a possible dissenting candidacy . He is expected to announce his decision next week.

"I believe that the battles of people must pass after the general interest of the Parisians. We have a common project and one opponent: Anne Hidalgo", the current mayor, has launched Mr. Griveaux

"I am certain of one thing: as we have a common goal, we will find ourselves together," he said.
