France and the United States managed to reach an agreement on a digital tax, said French leader Emmanuel Macron during a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump following the G7 summit in Biarritz.

“There was a lot of nervousness around the French digital tax. I think we have reached an agreement, ”he said.

Macron said France would strive to reach an international agreement in 2020 through the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

He specified that France will abolish the national tax after the introduction of the international tax.

Earlier, US and French finance ministers discussed the French bill on taxation of digital companies on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Biarritz.

Before traveling to the Biarritz Summit, Trump warned of the possible introduction of a French wine tax in response to France's digital tax on US companies.
