- We use investment support as much as we can. There it is probably a fit back to the minister that the support may increase, says Erik Pelling (S), chairman of the Uppsala municipal council.

According to Sweden's annual student union's annual report, students in 12 out of 33 student cities in Sweden risk being left without housing during the first semester. One of the cities that are on the so-called "red list" again this year is Uppsala.

- This is a serious problem for the municipality and for our universities, says Erik Pelling (S).

At the same time, the municipality has never been able to build as many homes in Uppsala as at the moment, according to the chairman of the local council.

- The solution to the problem is to build more housing, so it's a brightening on the horizon, says Erik Pelling (S).

Working to get cheaper housing

According to the report, Uppsala Student Union believes that year-long queuing times create uncertainty for students, while rents are often too high for students' finances to collapse.

- Companion contracts and more student corridors are a way to get cheaper housing, which we work actively with, says Erik Pelling (S).
