France's No. 1 Caroline Garcia, 27th in the world, was snugly eliminated on Monday in the first round of the US Open by Tunisian Ons Jabeur (62) 7-6 (10/8), 6-2.
Led from the first set, Garcia had managed to break up to return to 6-6, but she gave in the decisive game. In the next round, she took Jabeur's serve to lead 2-1, but the Tunisian immediately disbursed to line up five consecutive games and win.
