A weapon-like object was seized at a house search in the man's home, but police have now determined that it is not a real weapon.

"And then the suspicion of arms crime falls," Prosecutor Eva Nemec Nordh tells SVT.

Owns no weapon

The police also have no evidence to suggest that the suspected man has access to or has attempted to acquire weapons or other material to carry out an assault, according to the prosecutor.

"We have done an initial audit of computer media and that investigation has not given any indication that he has tried to acquire any weapons or dangerous things to carry out any deed," says Eva Nemec Nordh.

"Marketing"

The man stated during the interrogation that the purpose was marketing.

- His explanation for making these films and putting up the posters is that it was a marketing effort. It was not intended to threaten anyone and he has no intention of doing any school action, says Eva Nemec Nordh.

Do you think what he says is right?

- Yes, there is nothing that contradicts that. We have not found any signs that he has access to any real weapons or any other dangerous things or that he has tried to acquire it, or even sought it. So there is nothing to indicate that he had any intentions of a school act.

Found soft airgun at the house search

What weapons-like items did you find?

- It is a type of soft airgun, an electric variant. The judgment of the police is that it is not a firearm subject to a permit.

The prosecutor therefore considers that there is no risk of continued crime.

Still suspect

The preliminary investigation continues and the man is still suspected of unauthorized display and grossly illegal threats. Although the man had not intended to threaten, he should have understood that it could have that effect, according to Eva Nemec Nordh.

- Even if it was for marketing purposes, you must not do it anyway. This also had the effect of shutting down university activities. And he should have understood, when he expresses himself in this way, that it can be perceived as a threat.

The penalty for unlawful threats may be a fine or a shorter prison sentence.

Lives in Tranås

The man lives in Tranås municipality. He is not a student at Linköping University, but has, according to the prosecutor, been there before.

- There is no resentment against the university, but rather he thinks there are many students who would find his account. That's his explanation, says Eva Nemec Nordh.

What does he himself say about this resurrection?

- He himself has written that he does not understand that the outside world is reacting this way. He doesn't understand that it could be like this.

There is nothing in the investigation to indicate that he has acted with others.

Cannot damage the investigation

The man was released on Sunday.

- When we make the assessment that he has no intention of committing any school action, there is no risk of continued crime. And there is nothing in the investigation that he can now affect or hurt. We have seized everything, he is interrogated and there are no other people he can influence. And then there is no legal basis to keep him detained, says Eva Nemec Nordh.
