New Boko Haram attack in Niger: The village of Lamana (Gueskérou commune) was targeted. Twelve villagers were killed by members of the terrorist group who managed to cross the river that separates Nigeria from Niger at Lake Chad.

The return of the waters of the Komadougou Yobe River did not prevent the elements of Boko Haram from once again taking action against the populations living on Lake Chad in its Nigerian part. Indeed, it was at swimming and at night, Friday, August 23, that they crossed the water to attack the village of Lamana, in the commune of Gueskérou.

Boko Haram, still able to harm

Their irruption into the village coincided with the prayer, around 8 pm local time. After having sorted the valid arms, they then dragged them by force to the exit of the village where eleven were killed at point-blank range and the twelfth slaughtered. This deadly descent speaks volumes about the resilience of Boko Haram, which was thought to be weakened, but which still retains its capacity for harm.

The twelve victims of Boko Haram were buried yesterday, Saturday, by the villagers in the presence of a delegation of regional authorities. This attack comes just days before the arrival of a new governor in Diffa in the person of Issa Lamine, a former deputy, former rebel Toubou leader of the Front for the Defense of the Republic (FDR), and a native of the country. region.

Several deadly attacks

This is not the first time that the commune of Gueskérou and its surrounding villages are the object of deadly attacks. It is a commune located at the edge of Komadougou Yobe and draws all its wealth from Lake Chad. Two weeks ago, on 10 August, four soldiers from the Multinational Joint Force (Niger, Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon) were killed near Bosso as a result of the explosion of their vehicle that jumped on mines.
