As the G7 continues, the G7 against is also trying to organize. 68 arrests took place yesterday during an undeclared demonstration in Bayonne, a few kilometers away. A relatively low figure, due in particular to the large police presence in the region. As a result, actions punches planned this Sunday were even canceled.

It would seem that the policing around this G7 has somewhat cooled the ardor of the militants.

Originally planned this Sunday morning, the rallies, which were to take place in this square and around Biarritz, were all canceled by the organizers of the counter-summit, because of " the oversized security climate that reigns over the Basque Country " .

Instead, a noon gathering around a popular wall should take place, but it is a mobilization with contours and place still poorly defined.

Differences between activists

On the side of the militants, one evokes differences of opinion between demonstrators and organizers as for the turn that should take the actions of this Sunday. Some would rather support a mobilization framed, others would prefer to confront the police as close to the Heads of State and Government of the G7.

A little earlier in the day on Saturday, August 24, it is in a relaxed and good-natured atmosphere that 15,000 people marched according to the organizers. A journey of almost 3 kilometers long, straddling France and Spain, punctuated by itinerant concerts and which brought together both yellow jackets and Basque separatists through climate activists.

No provocations

Under a blazing sun, no tension, no clash took place between protesters and police. At the request of the organizers, who provided their own police service, the police and gendarmes were discreet throughout the course of the event.

No provocation on either side and in the opinion of the demonstrators, the exercise on Saturday morning was successful, he showed that the anti-G7 movement is peaceful. It is also in peace that the militants then dispersed but some of them at the end of the procession were already considering getting closer to the epicenter of the G7.

Getting closer to Bayonne

Indeed, for some activists, this official event 30 kilometers from Biarritz was far too geographically distant from the heart of the G7. They call therefore this Saturday, in the afternoon, to seize Biarritz. These activists had therefore planned in the afternoon to get as close as possible to Bayonne where undeclared wild actions could take place a few kilometers from Biarritz.

Anyway for this Sunday, August 25, it will be very difficult for activists to access Bayonne and what is more, in Biarritz. On the roads leading to this hotspot, dozens of filter dams have been installed. As for the project of some demonstrators to go to Biarritz by the sea, no less than four frigates of the army will furrow the edge of the beach located in front of the Palace Hotel.
