The fires in Brazil have an international repercussion. But the fires are mainly concerned with Brazil's neighboring countries, which share the Amazon rainforest. Among them, Colombia calls on the international community to give ways to preserve the Amazon.

For the moment, Colombia is not yet affected by the fires ravaging the Brazilian Amazon. But the country is watching the evolution of fires very closely. Like Brazil, Colombia also suffers from deforestation, which is the main cause of fires.

President Ivan Duque's call for the protection of the Amazon is addressed to the international community. " I would like to (...) appeal to the international community to understand that, in addition to speeches, resources and scientific support are needed to preserve our Amazonian lung ," declared the head of state at the time. a trip to Cali (southwest).

An address to bordering countries

But it is also addressed to all the other countries that share with Brazil the largest tropical forest in the world: Peru, Venezuela, Guyana, French Guiana, Suriname and Ecuador not to mention Bolivia, too fire victim right now. The Colombian president who spoke with his Brazilian counterpart, wants the establishment of funds to preserve the Amazon rainforest but also to fight against animal trafficking.

In the meantime, regional solidarity in favor of Brazil is being organized. Argentina will send 200 firefighters to the Amazon. The Latin American Development Bank will support the fight against the flames with half a million dollars.

After the denial, the mobilization seems general for the Amazon, the G7 seized the subject. A few days ago, the Brazilian president denied the existence of fires ravaging the largest tropical forest in the world. On Saturday, August 24, the first military aircraft began pouring water on the flames in the state of Rondondia.
