Kevin Anderson, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, will not compete in the US Open, he said, two days before the opening of the tournament, because of a right knee injury.

It is the Italian Paolo Lorenzi who will replace him in the table of the US Open, announced the American tennis federation.

The 33-year-old South African had lost in 2017 in the Flushing Meadows final against Rafael Nadal, and lost to Novak Djokovic last year at Wimbledon.

Currently 17th world player, Kevin Anderson has not played since he was out in the third round of Wimbledon last month.

In the past weeks, injuries have spread him from Washington, Montreal and Cincinnati tournaments.
