The defense team in the trial of the deposed Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir presented three witnesses in his trial today which took place amid tight security procedures.

The Anatolia news agency reported that the court heard the statements of the three witnesses, at a time when the fourth witness apologized for appearing before the court for his presence outside the country. The tribunal has set August 31 as the date for the continuation of the prosecution of al-Bashir, which is taking place at the Institute of Judicial and Legal Sciences in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Attorney Ahmed Ibrahim al-Tahir, head of the president's defense team, told reporters after the hearing that the defense had asked to allow Bashir to visit the jail. The lawyer said the defense had benefited from witness statements.

Judicial Officer
Mutasim Mahmoud, the first prosecutor for crimes against the state, who was in charge of criminal proceedings before withdrawing the file by a decision of the former attorney general, said that he issued a search warrant for the residence of the ousted president Omar al-Bashir immediately after receiving a petition from the military intelligence.

Mahmoud said he had found nearly seven million euros, in addition to $ 301,000, and five million Sudanese pounds ($ 112 million) in iron drawers and cabinets at Bashir's residence.

The spokesman pointed out that he was informed of an attempt to smuggle those funds outside the accused's residence, noting that he had opened a communication under article VI of the Foreign Exchange and Money Laundering Law.

The Sudanese judicial official pointed out that the two books of bank checks were found, one of them without documents in the bank, and a person to deposit and withdraw the amounts of them according to the testimony of the two banks. The second indictment witness, Major Abdel Azim Taha, said they found the money in an office at Bashir's residence.

Adoption of Bashir
In his first hearing on Monday, the ousted Sudanese president acknowledged receiving 90 million dollars in cash from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

In April, the head of the transitional military council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced that $ 113 million worth of banknotes had been found in three different currencies at al-Bashir's residence in Khartoum. In the following month, the prosecution charged Bashir with killing demonstrators in protests that toppled him.

It is noteworthy that the army isolated al-Bashir on April 11 after months of demonstrations against his regime, which began at the beginning to protest the poor living conditions to develop and become the main demand to overthrow the existing regime.
