• Events: A couple imprisoned in Albacete for the death of their two babies in a year and a half

The social services followed the couple of Caudete (Albacete) imprisoned for the death in only a year and a half of their two babies and did not detect any anomaly. The protocol was activated after the death in strange circumstances in January 2018 of the first baby, Omar , who suffered a head injury. A few months later, the Health service of the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha discovered that the parents, Aroha MG and Germán RT , were going to have another child and reported the pregnancy to the Court of Instruction No. 2 of Almansa , who was in charge of the investigation for the death of Omar.

The judge then launched the child protection protocol and ordered Caudete's social services to continue monitoring the second baby, Dylan , who was born on February 18, 2019. A specialist from the City Council periodically visited the family. as the court had arranged, according to EL MUNDO assures Moisés López Martínez , the mayor of Caudete. "The social services of the City Council were going every 15 days to the house to verify that everything was correct and at no time was any suspicious situation detected that the baby was in some kind of danger," explains the mayor. «According to reports, there were no symptoms that presaged the baby's subsequent death or that he was being mistreated. He was treated well and was well taken care of, everything was normal and correct, ”confirms the lawyer Joaquín Valiente , who is in charge of the defense of Germán RT, the father.

In the four months that mediated between the birth and death of the second baby, Dylan, Caudete's social services made a total of 11 visits to the parents and all of them were favorably informed of them and the child's condition. The autopsy, however, ruled that, in addition to the multiple fractures in the ribs that pierced her lung and caused her death, Dylan had previously suffered other tears, injuries that the social services did not detect in any of her interventions. Nor did the pediatrician at the Caudete Health Center, where they attended to the baby, noticed the fractures or warned of signs that indicated that the child suffered abuse.

Dylan passed away on June 29, when the investigation was still open for the death of his brother. It was the parents themselves, who were alone with both babies at home when the events occurred, who alerted the emergency services. The doctors who came to his home certified that Dylan had died from sudden death and the parents began to blame a vaccine. They announced in their environment that they would take legal action for medical malpractice. Four days later, the autopsy dismantled the vaccine theory and revealed that, as was the case with Omar, the second son had also died from severe trauma.

The parents, in provisional prison without bail

The parents were arrested on July 4 and brought to justice in the Court of First Instance and Instruction number two of Almansa. "In view of their statements and the evidence and evidence existing at that time, a provisional prison is issued and without bail for both," explained sources of the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla-La Mancha (TSJCL). "They are provisionally charged as alleged perpetrators of two crimes of murder with the aggravating abuse of superiority, two crimes of injury and two crimes of abuse in the family," adds the TSJCL. The two deaths are investigated in a single case and the parents are imprisoned in the prison of La Torrecica , in Albacete.

Germán RT, 28, and Aroha MG, 27, have insisted on their police and judicial statements in their innocence, but have not clarified how their children Omar and Dylan fractured - both dead at four months of age - the skull and the ribs respectively. "My client [Germán, the father] says that he has no idea how babies have been able to cause these injuries, that he finds no explanation for the deaths," his lawyer said yesterday at EL MUNDO. Aroha, the mother, who has a different lawyer from her partner, maintains a similar speech. "He told us that the boy had suddenly turned purple but that he did not know what had happened to him," a relative refers to her explanation of Dylan's death.

In Caudete, parents are described as an ordinary couple, nothing problematic, with no known background or conflicts. "These are two totally normal young people, integrated into the town, members of Civil Protection ... He had recently agreed to a rural employment plan of the Board and worked as a gardener with the Fobesa company," says the mayor of Caudete , Moisés López, about them.

The same kind profile is drawn in the local Civil Protection Service, where both worked as volunteers. "Until a firm sentence comes out and a judge does not say that they are guilty, we who know them continue to trust them," one of his companions tells EL MUNDO. "I can't speak from inside doors, but from outside doors they treated the children with an infinite affection, they wanted them to rage," he says. «Always talking about the kids and showing them:" Look how handsome he is. " They got mad when the creatures died.

Omar and Dylan, two deaths in a year and a half

Omar, the first child of Germán RT and Aroha MG, was born on September 14, 2017 at the Hospital de Albacete , the same center where he died on January 23, 2018 after remaining several days in the UVI. The four-month-old baby was unable to overcome a brain hemorrhage caused by severe head trauma. He was buried in the town of Elda ( Alicante ), where the mother's family originated. Four months later, the couple, who was being investigated for Omar's death, became pregnant again. Dylan was born on February 18, 2019 and died with four months, like his brother, on June 29, 2019. He was buried in the cemetery of Caudete (Albacete), where the parents lived together for four years.
