The Nobel Peace Prize Denis Mukewege and Nadia Murad were received Friday, August 23 at the Elysee Palace by Emmanuel Macron. They chair the G7 Advisory Board, a body created to champion the fight for equality between women and men.

Council members handed Friday a package of proposals that the French president will submit to the leaders of the G7 this weekend as part of a "partnership Biarritz".

Abolish discriminatory laws, adopt and implement progressive legislative frameworks that advance equality between women and men ... In its final report, the Advisory Board lists no less than 79 good practices.

It calls on the leaders of the G7 to commit through this Biarritz partnership to put an end in particular to gender-based violence or to ensure full equality between women and men in public policies.

Key points in the eyes of the co-chair of this council, Denis Mukwege . " The tools that have been put in place by this Advisory Council are a very very important instrument for the G7 conference. We hope it will be a shield against the setbacks we see . "

"Facing the challenges of our humanity"

The challenge will be to sensitize all G7 leaders to this issue, while the fight for gender equality is clearly not a priority for some leading countries.

" We know very well that there are many countries that are in decline, but we also rely on the courage of French leadership to persuade other leaders that they are simply on the wrong side. Because I think that we can not consider facing the challenges of our humanity today by leaving aside 50% of humanity, "said Denis Mukwege.

Although this council is responsible for monitoring the implementation of these proposals, no sanctions are provided against those states that do not respect their commitments.

Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad will travel this weekend to Biarritz to challenge the leaders of the G7 countries. They will be accompanied by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women.
