“They are pushing me, even though I have health problems,” Whelan told reporters as he was led down the hall to court.

He also complained that the translator allegedly did not understand him.

At the end of December 2018, the FSB reported that Whelan was detained during an espionage campaign in Moscow. He has citizenship of the USA, Great Britain, Ireland and Canada.

In May, his arrest was extended to 29 August.
