On Friday morning, the government announced that they would investigate further whether the planned expansion of Preem in Lysekil is approved or not, something P4 West was the first to report on.

The reason is that the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has previously raised alarms - and sent a letter to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy stating that the effects of Preem's expansion are "complex".

The government therefore takes over the issue to a certain extent from the Land and Environmental Court.

In November, Preem was granted permission to expand its operations, where the heavy oil will be converted into cleaner forms of fuel for the ship market.

The expansion means that the company's carbon dioxide emissions will double, and can lead to emissions corresponding to six times the emissions that the entire domestic flight accounts for.

After several organizations and individuals appealed against the decision, the Land and Environmental Court decided to raise the case. But now the government is choosing to take over the issue. The court will decide on the matter, but it is the government that has made the decision itself.

Today, at 11.30 am, Minister of Environment and Climate, Isabella Lövin (MP) is holding a press conference.
