Frenchman Benoît Paire qualified for the semi-finals of the Winston-Salem tennis tournament Friday by beating Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta despite a hole in the second set 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-3.

Benoît Paire, 30th player worldwide, continues to maintain his rank of No. 1 seed, but had to spend more than two hours to overcome Carreno Busta, 64th. The fault included a second set completely missed, where the French beat and lost 6-1.

Pair, who earned fewer points than his opponent throughout the match, managed to win the first set in the tie-break and tightened the game to pocket the third set 6-3.

In 2019, the Frenchman was qualified three times in the semifinals, in Marbella, Marrakech and Lyon. He has gone every time, winning the last two tournaments.

In the United States, he will be opposed to the American Steve Johnson, 82nd, Frenchman Corentin Moutet's defender in the first round.
