The new air defense system, also called IRIS-T, is already used on Gripenplan. Now it has been adapted so that the robots can be fired from the bandwagon.

- Robot 70 has been a faithful servant in Swedish defense. With that, the soldiers had to run up a hill, to a shooting station - a lavette - and from there control the robot right up to the target hit. With the new system, you do not need to clear at a height, but can be hidden behind houses or in the woods. After firing, the robot searches for the target himself, explains Communications Manager Carl Sjöstrand at LV6 in Halmstad to TT.

First platoon next year

Unlike the heavier Patriots system, which will be delivered in one year, robot 98 can be handled by conscripts, ie soldiers in basic training.

- Those who have now moved into the Air Force Regiment will be trained later in the fall and in the spring. So the first platoon trained in the new system will be ready next year, says Carl Sjöstrand.
