When My Rörling, who is a high school student in Luleå, came to school on Thursday, she was told that she will no longer be served a vegan diet, something she got throughout the last school year.

- I was very upset. This is not sustainable, says My Rörling.

"Does not cook vegan food"

Luleå municipality, which provides the food to the upper secondary school, believes that it is not in their guidelines that they should serve vegan food but that in individual kitchens exceptions can be made.

- We do not cook vegan food, it is not sufficiently nutritious which we are obliged to serve according to the School Act, says Mats Åström, head of department for meals within the school in Luleå municipality.

He says that the students who eat vegan food instead can eat from the salad buffet and pasta, rice and potatoes.

"Shouldn't have to bring food boxes with us"

My Rörling thinks that the salad buffet is not enough and that she and her friends talked about starting to bring their own food.

- Our parents pay taxes to get us food in school. Then we should not have to bring food boxes, she says.

Should students have to bring a lunch box?

- No. But I can't understand why you say so if you see what's in the salad buffet, says Mats Åström.

For your own part, wouldn't it be boring to eat a salad buffet every day?

- It's your own choice. I wouldn't do it, but I'm not vegan.
