This is stated in the press service of the Ukrainian president.

“The head of state thanked Canada for its consistent position regarding the impossibility of Russia returning to the G7 in the conditions of aggression, which continues in the Donbass, and the occupation of Crimea,” the message said.

Zelensky also said that it was necessary "not to return Russia" to the G8, but "to force it to fulfill its obligations."

In addition, the Ukrainian president and Canadian prime minister agreed to discuss "countering the aggressive policy of Russia" after the G7 summit in France.

Earlier, Zelensky thanked British Prime Minister Boris Johnson for London’s position “in support of Ukraine in light of recent statements about the possibility of Russia returning” to the G8.

Crimea became the Russian region after a referendum held in March 2014, in which the majority of the inhabitants of the peninsula called for reunification with Russia.

Russia has repeatedly stressed that it is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine and acts as a mediator in resolving the situation.
