US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that his trade war with China was not his war, and that other presidents had preceded him to the White House.

"This is not my trade war, this is a trade war that should have been fought by other presidents for a long time," Trump told a long press briefing in the White House.

"Someone had to do the job," he said, before looking at the sky and opening his arms, saying, "I am the chosen one," quoting a biblical term. The president's statement came on the same day he began with tweets in which he made a statement to conservative radio commentator Wayne Allen Root, who said that "President Trump is the best president for Jews and for Israel in the history of mankind, and Jews in Israel adore him, as if he were the king of Israel."

"Thank you Wayne Allen Root for these very nice words," Trump said on Twitter.

On Wednesday afternoon, the "King of Israel" label was among the most popular Twitter tags in the United States. Trump has imposed stiff tariffs on $ 250 billion of Chinese imports annually and plans to impose new tariffs on imports of $ 300 billion in two more rounds on September 1 and December 15.

Despite the IMF warning that Trump's trade war is slowing global growth, and with signs of a possible contraction in the US economy, the White House master does not appear to be softening the war.

"I'm facing China," Trump said on Wednesday. I face China in trade, do you know what? "We are winning."

"People have put me in this place to do a great job, and that's what I do."

People put me here to do a great job, and that's what I do.
