In Mariestad, the undersea rebellion gathered around 30 underwear for a demonstration in the square. The insurgency demands that the state inject more money, so that staffing can increase. The protesters say that the nurses have too little time for the people to help them.

On Thursday, 14,500 signatures were also submitted to Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren, demanding improved working conditions.

More responsibility

It is also a question of the nurses wanting better work, more delegated responsibilities.

- Some undergraduates are applying to the county council, because the undergraduates are allowed to do more that we are trainers for there, says Ida Eliasson.

Social manager Karin Utbo in Mariestad thinks that the signals that reach her are more varied. Some say they can, others do not. She also believes that many nurses have an easy time wanting to help more than it is actually decided that the caregiver should receive.

- Obviously, it's a very tough job. A nurse should be good at a lot of things, such as nursing, problem-solving and creating relationships, says Karin Utbo.

No shortage in Mariestad

In Mariestad, according to the social director, there is no acute deficiency nurse. Here, the employer has worked to increase the number of full-time jobs. In 2017, 54% of the nurses in Mariestad worked full time - now it is 67%.

- It has been perceived as positive. We are also working to reduce sick leave by ensuring that nurses receive rehabilitative help and that they can get back to work early, says Karin Utbo.
