Suspected of killing his wife, whose body was found in the garden shed of their home, a 64-year-old man was indicted Thursday.

A man was indicted Thursday for "spousal homicide by spouse", suspected of killing his wife with two rifles at Romilly-sur-Seine, in the Aube, before attempting to commit suicide, has we learned from the prosecutor of Troyes.

The 64-year-old man was taken into custody on Tuesday after being hospitalized for a week following his suicide attempt. He is suspected of having killed his 62-year-old wife, whose body was found on 13 August in the garden shed of their home in Romilly-sur-Seine. "The facts were committed in the garden, traces were found, not fight, but showing that the facts had occurred," said the prosecutor shortly after the discovery of the body.

According to the prosecutor of Troyes, Olivier Caracotch, the man admitted the facts in custody, explaining that his motive was "jealousy". "He was convinced that his wife was cheating on him," Olivier Caracotch told AFP, adding that no previous report had been made by the victim for acts of violence.

94 feminicides since January

According to a source close to the file, in letters found near the body of the victim, the man evokes an alleged connection of his companion with another man. The couple of traders was manager of a bar-tabac in Romilly-sur-Seine.
