Why are forest fires intensifying this year in Brazil? The controversy is raging and Brazilian Internet users are mobilizing to denounce this destruction.

From our correspondent in Sao Paulo,

Many Brazilian media talk about the fires that are increasing in the country, but on social networks, many people have also mobilized, especially around the hashtag #PrayforAmazonas (Pray for the Amazon in French), which relays a whole bunch of messages and photos to alert world opinion. In all, more than 800,000 tweets under this hashtag have so far circulated.

" People from outside [foreigners, ed] worry more about our country than our" dear "president, " strangles a surfer. Some people are also surprised that we are only talking about these fires now, whereas it has been two weeks, according to them, that the forest is burning.

Many feel helpless: " Fear! This is the right word to say what I feel now, I do not know what will be the future, I do not know how to avoid such a thing, I do not know what to do! I feel incapable and it's ... #PrayforAmazonas, "writes a Brazilian.

MEDO! I think it's a good idea to define agora, do not worry about it, do not worry about it, do not worry about it, do not worry about it! Estou me sensindo incapaz e isso uma Merda #PrayforAmazonas pic.twitter.com/vYAqvtLinW

Celebrities also took over the subject, like the Cuban singer Camila Cabello: " It makes me want to cry in frustration. What are we doing ? We are literally destroying a miracle of our planet. I'm sorry, Earth. "

In Brazil, it is currently the peak period of drought, and in general, forest fires are more numerous. But the problem is that this year, there are already almost twice as many as last year.

For ecologists, this is particularly related to deforestation. The land must be cleaned to prepare it for cultivation or breeding. Breeders do this especially with burning. So as deforestation increases, forest fires also increase.

Bolsonaro blows on embers

But on the side of power, President Bolsonaro points the finger at NGOs NGOs that could be, according to him, responsible for this wave of forest fires. Statements that have made a stir since Wednesday on social networks especially because of the word " g uerre " pronounced several times by Jair Bolsonaro.

Several media on the internet point out that these are baseless insinuations. And some Brazilians leave raging comments on social networks.

A Brazilian is carried away on Twitter: " Mr. Bolsonaro accuses NGOs of having set off fires in the Amazon. But if NGOs were to set fire somewhere, it would certainly be in the palace of Planalto [the Brazilian presidential palace] . The climate in Brazil is therefore far from being around the environment.
