The fire that hits Gran Canaria has been able to be stabilized on Wednesday, although the fire will maintain Level 2 -the direction of its management corresponds to the Government of the Canary Islands- and the air and land will remain on the island, since The reactivation of some fronts cannot be ruled out.

This has been revealed by the President of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, during a press conference held on Wednesday night to give an account of the latest data of a fire that affects the island since the afternoon from last saturday.

The fire - which has a perimeter of 112 kilometers - has finally burned some 9,200 hectares of land , while if the other two fire that Gran Canaria has suffered in recent weeks are counted, the figure increases to 12,000 hectares.

Torres explained that during the day they have also worked intensely and that a million liters of water have been discharged on the fire.

In addition, he has indicated that the work of this Wednesday has been double; On the one hand, the fire extinguishing ones, and on the other, the evaluation of the state of the cut roads - today, eleven tracks have been opened - and of the urban centers to offer the necessary security for the neighbors to return to their homes. .

"Although it is stabilized," Torres insisted, "the fire is still at level 2 and in the previous meeting we have requested that all air units and ground equipment be maintained as long as the level does not decrease because temperatures rise."

RECOVERED NOW 7,500 PEOPLE

The Minister of Public Administration, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, Julio Pérez, has pointed out that some 7,500 people have already been relocated from the almost 10,000 who had to be evacuated due to the virulence of the calls.

In total, 48 urban centers had to be evicted from the island's medians, of which 35 have already been relocated.

As for the municipalities, the most affected has been Artenara with 60% of its territory, followed by Valleseco (40.6%), Agaete (28%), Moya (23.75%), Gáldar (20.61% ), Tejeda (17%), while San Mateo and Guía have been less affected.

CRICKET ON STABILIZATION: "IT'S LIKE HAVING A PATIENT IN THE UVI"

For his part, the emergency chief of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Federico Grillo, has highlighted the work of firewalls that have been carried out in recent years - 10,000 hectares - since despite the virulence of the flames they have minimized the effects devastating fire.

"The state of the fire is within some control lines . It does not mean that it cannot be uncontrolled, it is like having a patient in the UVI," he noted to indicate that the units are still deployed.

He has also explained that during the day there were reboots of the flames at some points, "nothing serious" since the weather conditions were good and managed to contain.

On the other hand, he recalled that the weather forecast points to a rise in temperatures, so all precautions are maintained to contain a fire that could be controlled in a couple of days.

"We have to be cautious," he continued. "We understand that many neighbors want to return home but human life comes first. We cannot guarantee that [the fire] will not restart. We cannot let our guard down."

MORALES: "WE WILL KEEP REVERDING THE ISLAND"

Finally, the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, has placed special emphasis on the fact that despite the aggressiveness of the fire there is no need to regret human victims and he stressed that his administration will continue to "green" the island because it is a claim of all Grancanarios

In this regard, he wanted to thank all the groups and teams of firefighters who have come from numerous points in the Canary Islands and Spain, who have joined almost 1,000 professionals who have helped Gran Canaria.

"I think the worst is over," he said. " This island faces a challenge for the future. I consider myself in a position to affirm that we are going to do it with the participation of a large social majority. The challenge must be done with the unity of administrations and civil unity. Soon our natural landscape will recover. "

Finally, he commented that the Cabildo will continue to green the island because it is a social demand and that there will be plantation campaigns to enhance the Grancanarian green spaces.
