"Serious and repeated failures in the duties that were incumbent on him"

"On the proposal of the Minister of the Interior, the Council of Ministers has issued the dismissal of Mr. Stéphane Sieczkowski-Samier as mayor of the municipality of Hesdin", which has some 2,200 inhabitants, can read in the minutes of the Council of Ministers.

This decision comes "because of the serious and repeated failures to the duties incumbent on him as mayor and authorizing of the commune", said for its part in a statement the prefecture of Pas-de-Calais, which had launched this procedure of revocation.

This was linked to the judicial setbacks of the mayor elected in 2014 at the age of 22, currently targeted by several investigations, including the acquisition of weapons of the third category, illegal taking of interest, complicity of forgery and use of false in public writing and embezzlement of public funds. For the latter case, Stéphane Sieczkowski-Samier, one of the youngest mayors in France, must be tried with his mother on September 12 before the Boulogne-sur-Mer Criminal Court.

He will remain councilor

The day after its publication of the decree in the Official Journal, "the decree of revocation will come into force and Mr. Stéphane Sieczkowski-Samier will lose his function as mayor, it remains councilor of Hesdin," said the prefecture. He "is provisionally replaced in the fullness of his duties as mayor, by the first deputy currently in office" and the latter "will have to meet the city council within a maximum of 15 days to elect the new mayor and new assistants".
