On January 9, masked perpetrators entered a kennel in Önnestad outside Kristianstad. The kennel owner was sprayed with red paint, brutally beaten and tied with silver tape. Then the robbers stole six of her puppies.

In Kristianstad district court, a 27-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison for gross robbery. At the same time, a 34-year-old suspected aide was acquitted by the district court.

Both the 27-year-old defense lawyer and the prosecutor have appealed the verdict and now it is being tried in the High Court. On Wednesday, the trial began, where negotiations are ongoing for two days.

There is several evidence that binds the 27-year-old to the robbery. Mobile traffic shows that he was in Kristianstad at the time of the robbery. His DNA has also been found on cable ties in the dog number.

Visited the kennel before the robbery

According to defense lawyer Kristoffer Ståhl, the 27-year-old has given a credible explanation as to why his DNA was found at the scene. He visited the kennel a few weeks before the robbery to check on a dog and then his DNA may have made an impression in the stable.

Another evidence from the defense lawyer is the testimony of the kennel owner that the perpetrator did not speak Scanian dialect. The 27-year-old, on the other hand, speaks Skåne.

- I have a great deal of confidence in the court of law and believe and hope that they will do a fair trial and acquit my client from serious robbery, writes lawyer Kristoffer Ståhl in a text message to SVT Nyheter Skåne.

The 27-year-old refuses a crime and now wants to be fully acquitted by the High Court. He also wants to avoid paying damages to the kennel owner.

Requires jail time

For the freed 34-year-old, the prosecutor has not submitted any new evidence, but wants the man to be sentenced to prison for gross robbery.

The final day of trial in the High Court will be held on August 27. Then the verdict is handed down.
