The metropolis of Lyon was chosen Wednesday to organize the WorldSkills Competition (WSI) 2023, Olympics crafts designed to measure and promote craftsmanship and promote the training of a skilled workforce through learning.

Lyon was opposed to the Japanese city of Aichi, we learned from the French delegation.

For Labor Minister Muriel Pénicaud, quoted by WorldSkills France, the selection of France "is the symbol of unprecedented government mobilization for vocational education and youth learning in our country".

In May, receiving at the Elysee the young people aged 18 to 23 selected for the 45th edition of the WSI held from Thursday in Russia, President Emmanuel Macron had once again defended learning. He then reiterated his support for the project carried by WorldSkills France and the metropolis of Lyon for 2023.

In 1995, the capital of Gaul had already hosted this international competition organized every two years.

Through this competition, "it is the French know-how and our commitment to the crafts of art and excellence that will shine throughout the world," said Michel Guisembert, president of WSI France, quoted in a statement.

The WSI and the Lyon project are "one of the solutions for those (...) who are wondering how to respond to markets for lack of qualified labor," he said.

The president of the metropolis of Lyon David Kimelfeld, expressed his "pride" to see France, through Lyon, be the host country of WSI 2023.

During the four days of the Olympiad, more than 1,600 young competitors, and more than 50 trades will be represented. Some 200,000 visitors are expected.
