US authorities are investigating a mysterious neurological disorder that affects lynx panthers and cousins ​​in Florida, preventing them from walking normally.

"All the affected animals were walking abnormally or had problems coordinating their hind legs," said the Florida Fish and Wildlife Agency.

Surveillance cameras have recorded feline images of various degrees of the disease, the cause of which is not yet known. Infectious diseases, nutritional deficiencies and exposures to various toxins are being considered.

If relatively few animals had symptoms that made them stagger as if they were drunk or started dancing, the researchers were still trying to determine the extent of the problem.

"Several diseases have already been ruled out," said Gil McRae, director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Agency's research institute, adding that his services were working with those of the US federal state. and various specialists around the world to unravel this mystery.
