21 August 2019 "We cannot govern on contracts, but we must do it on projects and wait for someone to be able to make agreements and actions that can be implemented for the common good": Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, president of the CEI, said so archbishop of Perugia, answering a question about the government crisis.

"I have a secular view of politics"
"I have a more secular view of politics that for us is made of evangelical contents": this is underlined by Cardinal Bassetti, who recalled Giorgio La Pira, responding to the repeated references to religious symbols in the Senate during the debate following the intervention of the premier Giuseppe Conte. "The religiosity - the archbishop of Perugia added - is expressed in the church and in the places of faith".

Bassetti then stressed that "we need to distinguish religiosity from faith". "Faith - he said - is a very serious thing, it is an adhesion to Christ, to the values ​​of the Gospel.
