He wanted to alert the scam and took a brutal beating. A young Briton was beaten a few days ago in Benidorm by alerting another group of tourists of the scam that were committing a group of trileros in one of the busiest streets of the capital of the Costa Blanca.

The young man, with wounds on his head , was treated at a nearby health center but did not file a complaint because he did not carry his passport on top of it and, in addition, he saw how one of the trileros he faced was waiting for him at the center's doors sanitary The aggression was recorded by Howard George Stirrup, who has published a video alerting that these scams in Benidorm are common to tourists as well as elderly people. In the recording, one of the friends of the assaulted report that they decided to alert those who congregated around the scammers after checking on another visit to Benidorm two months ago that the trileros had cheated an older lady in his presence.

The practice of these trileros has been well known in Benidorm for decades. It consists of taking advantage of the hours of less police presence in the busiest areas to place a cardboard box as a table to also make the game known as the potato game : three cut potatoes and a ball that moves between them.

The police have been fighting these types of practices for years, but they do not have a legal weapon that allows them to act: the trile is not a crime . It cannot be considered a scam because there is a willingness to play who participates who, in the case of foreigners, do not know what the game is about.

Their work was limited to requesting the cessation of the activity and, in the event of resistance, stop the trileros for disobedience to the authority and take them to court. However, there are already sentences that have overturned sentences to trileros.

The authorities have limited their steps, but only a few days before the aggression, the Court of Instruction number 1 of Benidorm issued a restraining order the areas of greatest influx of tourists for four people arrested for allegedly being part of a band of trileros.

The band, according to the National Police, was formed by three men and two women of Austrian nationality, between 32 and 63 years, specialized in the game of the trile and with a role in the scam: one was driving the ball (trilero), others did the surveillance to warn in case of police presence (waterboats) and others were the hooks, fundamental figure because they simulated betting and winning, prompting the victim to do the same.

In addition, another member of the group stood behind the deceived attentive to the contents of the wallet , and if the victim decided not to bet, sometimes the latter would easily seize the wallet and run away, with the help of the rest who collaborated before the bewilderment of the stolen. Among the five detainees, there were more than 60 police records .

The recommendation of the authorities to this practice is that both tour operators and hoteliers warn tourists about these scams , in many cases unknown in their countries of origin.
