BRÅ's figures for the entire country show that during the first half of 2019, a total of 108 reports of general destruction by explosion were received. The figure for the same period last year is 76. In the East Region, seven applications were received during the first half of 2018, this year the figure is at sixteen.

Sven Granath is a criminologist and analyst at the Stockholm Police Region and according to him, it is difficult to say what the increase is due to.

- Yes, unfortunately it is well that it has increased. Why we do not know, this may be due to the increase in gun violence at national level. In individual locations, there may be one or more conflicts between criminal networks, but it is very difficult to know, he says.

Hard to know

According to the National Forensic Center, NFC also investigations of explosives increased between 2013 and 2018.

Despite the increase, Sven Granath believes that one cannot know for sure where the explosive comes from.

- You can only really speculate. It may be stolen from the building and sold on or maybe smuggled in. Hand grenades are probably stolen from some defense repository but explosives may be stolen from the building or that you have a contact at some building, he says.
