Vladimir Putin was received by Emmanuel Macron on Monday at Fort Brégançon, during a more than cordial meeting. Since 2014, Russia has been excluded from the G8 (now G7). This interview was particularly scrutinized, just days from the G7 in Biarritz. On Europe 1, Pierre-Henri Dumont, deputy Republicans, returns on the dialogue between the two men.
"We must talk to everyone"
He is part of the opposition but nevertheless supports the initiative. At the microphone of Sebastien Krebs, Pierre-Henri Dumont believes that this meeting was a good idea. "We must speak to everyone: we are France, a member of the United Nations Security Council," he pleaded, adding that "the fact that Russia is no longer part of the G8 should not prevent the dialogue."
Keeping a link, not isolating the Russians, for Pierre-Henri Dumont, this is the right approach to follow. "Wanting to put Russia aside would be a serious mistake, it is one of the world's great powers, a member of the UN Security Council, a nuclear power," said MP LR.
"Stay humble"
During this meeting, it was notably about Syria, Libya, the situation in Ukraine, but also demonstrations in Moscow. "There are certainly human rights problems in Russia and there have been political assassinations: it must be mentioned," said the MP for the 7th district of Pas-de-Calais. But we must also remain humble, especially when we see the treatment during the demonstrations of 'yellow vests', "he said, events that Vladimir Putin himself reminded the French president.
