Ten migrants jumped Tuesday from the boat of the Spanish NGO Open Arms to try to rally the nearby Italian island Lampedusa while a new solution will be proposed by Madrid facing the "humanitarian emergency".

A first man jumped early in the day, said the NGO on his Twitter account by broadcasting a video.

"It is possible that he was landed (in Lampedusa by the Italian coastguard) but we have no official confirmation," said a spokesman for Open Arms AFP.

A few hours later, "nine people jumped into the water trying desperately to reach the coast of Lampedusa (...) The situation is out of control," added the NGO in another tweet.

These nine people, some of whom were not wearing lifejackets, were rescued and were around 12:00 (10:00 GMT) "aboard the Italian Coast Guard boat," according to the spokesperson of the Spanish organization.

Some of the migrants aboard the Open Arms have been there for 19 days, matching the record of migrants rescued by SeaWatch3 in late December before landing in Malta on 9 January.

Faced with the refusal of Rome to disembark the migrants of the Open Arms in Lampedusa despite the agreement of six European countries to welcome them, Madrid has finally proposed Sunday the boat to reach Algeciras, in the extreme south of Spain , which the NGO has deemed "absolutely unfeasible".

The Spanish government then proposed the Balearic Islands, closer but still distant a thousand kilometers from Lampedusa, an idea considered "totally incomprehensible" by Open Arms because of the three days of sea necessary to rally the Spanish archipelago.

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles said on Tuesday that Madrid would make a new proposal "in the coming hours" to resolve this "humanitarian emergency", without giving details.

She again denounced the attitude of Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini "who has shown that human lives do not matter to him".

"Firmness is the only way to prevent Italy from becoming again the refugee camp of Europe, as the Spanish NGO's boat of false sick and fake miners still demonstrates" hammered Salvini on Twitter.
