The doctors at Kisangani Hospital, who have been on a strike for eight days, are still waiting for their demands to be heard. The dialogue between the strikers and the authorities nevertheless resumed on Monday 19 August in the morning with a meeting between the two parties. At the end of the meeting, the provincial government announced the reopening of the hospital for all, while since August 12, only the very old patients were still treated in this institution.

After a week of mobilization, doctors at Kisangani Hospital still have the same demands . To know more security for the hospital staff and the departure of their director, whom they accuse of embezzlement and threats of dismissal to the strikers. On Monday morning, Abibu Sakapela, vice governor of the province, went to meet them.

" It was decided by order of the provincial authority," says the vice-governor, " that everyone can first resume their service, to allow the authority to examine all the grievances placed against the management committee and to find appropriate solutions, but also durable solutions. We will have to rectify the situation. "

With the threat of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo, it was unthinkable for the authorities to leave the hospital closed. The discussions led to the resumption of doctors' work. They do not forget their demands and expect a strong response from the authorities.

" According to the compromise found, we should have a satisfactory response within 15 days, says Mateus Gamba, one of the doctors strikers. If there is not a satisfactory answer, as it was union action, the union will surely resume its activities. So the strike can resume if ever the authority does not give his word. "

Pending a resolution to this conflict, residents of the province can return to Kisangani Hospital for treatment.
